The first academic activity of the new elected Burea of the UMAR was in the form of a workshop entitled "Towards a Renewed Reading of south Tunisian Mountain Architecture" in the south of Tunisia organized by UIK university, Tunisia with the participation of 40 students from different universities from Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Lebanon and Tunisia.
The workshop took place in a number of villages and cities in the south of Tunisia with different forms of local architecture. The presentation conducted be the attending Professors from the participating countries were about the similarities between this type of regional architecture and local architecture in their home countries.
The study and analysis took place in the following villages / cities in the south of Tunisia:
- "Sheneni" and "Dureit" as a form of the local architecture in the southern Mountains.
- "Matmata" as a form of the Tunisian Underground Architecture.
- "Djerba" as a form of the local vernacular coadtal Architecture.
